“The Tacoma is getting better and better”
The 2012 Toyota Tacoma was awarded the top spot in the PickupTrucks.com and USAToday Midsize Pickup Truck Shootout, beating six other contestants.
The four judges were all in agreement of the 2012 Tacoma being the clear winner.
“The Tacoma is getting better and better,” the judges wrote according to an article on USAToday.com. “There’s a lot of truck here for the money.”

Running the trucks for almost 200 miles over terrain ranging from freeways to byways and steep mountain trails, the tests verified power, quickness and hard braking for stopping distance. The 2012 Tacoma out-performed all competitors and solidified its top spot scoring 938 out 1000 possible points.

It accounted for 38% of midsize pickup sales last year, mostly without help from the updates, which came in the fall. Toyota plans a Baja version for serious off-roaders. In testing, Tacoma had the quickest-stopping brakes. The powerful engine “seems almost to want to carry even more weight,” the judges said. But Tacoma is the most expensive. Price:$34,635. MPG: 19.3. While the Tacoma was priced higher than the other trucks tested, it wasn’t by much. Four of the six competitors were priced in the $30,000 range and none, except the 2012 Toyota Tacoma, scored higher than 900.
